walhalla farm Field note
Summer is one of the busiest times on the farm and this year was no exception!
We worked all season with New Roots at the heart of everything we did. There’s much to share, and we look forward to updating you on the exciting changes here at the farm.
In preparation for New Roots, the first project we tackled this spring was moving and expanding our vegetable garden and berry bushes. We can now share farm fresh food from our land with resident artists, throughout the spring, summer and fall months!
We also welcomed an animal addition to the farm family… Chickens! By next spring, we’ll be able to provide residents with farm fresh eggs AND chicken cuddles. We cannot wait for you to meet George, Butter, Doris (the unintended rooster…whoops!), Gigi & PopPop. They will be making their social media debut next month. Stay tuned!
The greatest addition to the Walhalla Farm family was welcoming our nephew Andrew Kreimendahl and his partner Emerson. Andrew and Emerson moved in August and are now living on the farm— pursuing their dreams and helping take care of the land, as well as our resident artists' needs.
Andrew and Emerson are both young trans artists; Andrew is a musician and Emerson has a dance background. They left an oppressive, anti-trans situation in rural Texas for a better life in New York. We are thrilled and grateful to add them to the Walhalla Farm family and New Roots team!
In our next Newsletter, we look forward to sharing the progress we’ve made on the Dairy Barn and Sugar Shack restorations. Both structures are integral to our long-term goal of expanding and renovating work spaces for our artists, as well as community gatherings on the farm.
That’s all for now! More to come this October!
