BONNIE METZGAR is an awardwinning playwright, screenwriter, director and producer who specializes in creating socially-provocative theater works. Recently, she/they has been nominated for TCG’s 2022 Alan Schneider Director Award and served as staff writer for GENIUS: ARETHA, a limited television series with showrunner Suzan-Lori Parks. Metzgar’s plays have won the Edgerton New Play Award, were commissioned by the NEA, the Goodman Theater, Sideshow Theater, and were finalists for the Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Festival and the Great Plains Theater Conference. Metzgar was formerly Artistic Director of About Face Theatre, one of the largest theaters in the US dedicated to producing queer artists and advancing the cultural dialogue on sexuality and gender identity.Metzgar is passionate about making systemic change in the American theater, and is serving her third term on the National Advisory Board for Howlround, the online theater commons. Previously, Metzgar served as Associate Producer at the Public Theater where she founded Joe’s Pub. She/they is currently on faculty at University of Illinois Chicago.
